"To my Mother's mother's mother line and to my Father's matrilineal lineage:

Mother to Mother, from 500 to 2000 years ago, your roots - your DNA - actually live inside of me. I feel you. Thank you Tuareg Ancestors from Niger. Thank you Mafa Ancestors from Cameroon. Thank you Taino Ancestors from the Island of Boriquen. You who lived simply and walked barefooted on our great Earth, connected at all times to her heartbeat. Thank you."

About the Exhibit

The Honoring Our Roots Exhibit invited women of color to submit artwork that is representative of the Ethnicity, Culture, Heritage, Oneness, and Everlasting Sisterhood of their lineage. This exhibit honors their roots - the authentic roots that women of color have struggled to reconnect with and fight to ensure isn't erased. Honoring Our Roots is a collaboration with MUSEA's Sacred ECHOES of the Well Sisterhood.

This Exhibit is a powerful statement of who women of color are and provides a platform to allow their voices to be heard and their art to be witnessed.

This exhibit is unlike any other hosted by the Intentional Creativity® Museum! Each artist presented their artwork and the accompanying poetry and story of the art. The art is magical. Their words are compelling and heart-opening. These women's connection to their roots is indelible and they share their images and stories with us powerfully.

"We are here, sharing with you, paintings from our soul. Paintings that call us deep in the waters of our soul, of our spirit to share a little bit of us. Who we are. Each one of our paintings represents messages from the soul, messages from the Ancestors, and messages from each one of us. We are most grateful that you are here."
